The biggest advantage of BTAO is that, at the cost of a less capable renderer, you can run the game at higher resolutions, up to 60 frames per second (with ideal settings) on every resolution supported by this game. For the first time, Rise of the Tomb Raider incorporates both Global Illumination (GI) and Ray Tracing (RT). GI uses techniques to give the game the look of the real world. Previous Tomb Raiders used light fields (which aren’t as realistic as GI) but now use GI to create believable light and shadows. RT, which renders the environment from space with light and shadows reaching down to the ground, shows up in many games, Rise of the Tomb Raider being one of them. The screenshot below shows the difference in framerates with and without GI and RT enabled. A framerate of 90 is with the settings set to Basic and with GI off, which is roughly the framerate that the game runs at with the current settings. A framerate of 50 is with the settings set to Extra, using GI and RT on, which is the framerate you should aim for.

Like the title says, The Last Revelation is definitely not a true Tomb Raider game, but it is a nifty package that offers a nice taster. Like the other games, it features improved graphics (which at times are very impressive). And again, the game offers the best sense of Lara’s personality, something that is sadly lacking in The Last Revelation itself. With Lara’s character seeming more believable here than any other Tomb Raider game, this one is as worthwhile as they come.
We’ve come to the third game of the series. This one feels like a valiant effort to fill the space that Tomb Raider II left, not in terms of content, but in presentation. It may not be quite the same as the first, but it attempts to bring in a few different directions, at least. From start to finish, this game is a fair amount of fun, and particularly so when you can get into the second-half of the game. By the end, you will be happy for the effort the developers have put into this third-game.
If youve ever played a Tomb Raider game and failed to complete it, this one wont leave you staring at a blank screen. Rising from the ashes is one of the better story based Tomb Raider games and gives you new heroes to play as, with more weapons to use and improved combat mechanics.
She didn’t follow the original formula and she doesn’t feel like the original Tomb Raider. She feels like her own character, a strong Lara Croft with a new set of skills. This is the real return of the Tomb Raider.
This reinvigorated new Tomb Raider has a great presentation, new, intriguing enemies, some well-executed puzzles, and feels like it’s been built with this modern game-design challenge in mind. It’s one of the best Tomb Raider games ever.
