The same can be achieved without a RS232 device, just by reading /dev/tty0 and /dev/tty1, but RS232 is much better solution.
Of course, the same can be achieved by use of a standard serial terminal (programmatic), but that’s the work. You don’t need to develop an application to do so.
You should provide the RS232 device along with the app to gather data from it. So that I know how it works.
